From Database:

  1. Go to the Project Database Editor Database
    1. Click Show Global Database rows and add relevant data from Global Database, OR
    2. Add New data into the Project Database Editor and input the Insertion Loss (input all fields including Database Origin and Source Citation so that the data can be referenced for future projects).
  2. Return to main screen and select Show Search in Insertion Loss (Sound Pressure) element Property Inspector to select the relevant data.
  3. Insertion Loss of the element (can be sourced from manufacturer’s data for a given attenuator or from the database if available).

SoundSurfer Input

Sound Pressure Level (blue node) of an upstream source.

Algorithm

$L_{pOut}=L_{pIn}-IL$

A common application will be to account for in-line attenuation.

Output

Attenuation (dB) applied to the input Sound Pressure Level, with attenuated Sound Pressure Level (blue node) output octave bands in dB(A), dB(Z) and dB(C). Output being the sound pressure level at the upstream side of the insertion loss element less the attenuation through the insertion loss element.
